What is this??
Great question! Democracy Notes is where I’m sharing a curated set of links: articles, job postings, events, and more. If there’s something you think I should share, send me a note at gabe@democracy-notes.org (or reply to this email/comment below).
My goal is to be a thoughtful curator of your attention, your most valuable resource. In US-democracy land there’s lots to pay attention to. I’ll do my best to sift through it all, find the gems, and share those with you!
So, without further ado…
Democracy Notes 1/24
What to read:
(Articles/reports)
Searching for a New Paradigm: Collective Settings More in Common and the SNF Agora Institute's new report on collective settings and "everyday democracy" was worth reading in full. Great case making for the civic infrastructure where people gather to solve public problems like libraries, parks, and faith institutions.
Right-Wing Populists Are Just as Bad for Business as Left-Wing Ones Rachel Kleinfeld’s piece in The UnPopulist is great for folks curious about how business has fared in far-right populist regimes (like Orbán's Hungary). I always find international case studies clarifying, and this is no exception.
What to watch/listen to/attend:
(Events, podcasts, and more)
Eric Ward’s 2021 Yale lecture Skin in the Game: Antisemitism, White Nationalism, and the Work for an Inclusive Democracy was a revelation. I’ve watched this 3x now, and each time it’s worth it.

Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Program Officer (x4) — Winston-Salem, NC, $95,000 - $135,000
