What’s happening in philanthropy:

Funding! New Profit just opened its 2024 call for discovery submissions. They will be giving $1.5M and strategic advisory support to 5 organizations in their democracy and economic mobility focus areas.
The Lenfest Institute and the Associated Press are hosting a “Democracy Demo Day.” (Thank you to Joseph Lichterman from Lenfest for sharing.)
This is a very neat pitch opportunity. Each team selected to present will receive $5K + travel stipend (10 teams total).
They’re looking for journalists, technologists, and non-partisan democracy advocates working on 2024-focused projects.
5 main topic areas:
Augmenting confidence in election results
Supporting local elections officials and processes
Spurring participation and combating voter suppression
Limiting the effects of misinformation and disinformation
Focusing attention away from “horse race” coverage
Short (12 min) podcast discussion with Ali Noorani, director of the US Democracy program at Hewlett, re: his recent op ed about democracy beyond elections.

Democracy reform: FixUS put together this amazing “solutions landscape” which breaks down lots of institutional reforms including: redistricting reform, RCV, fusion voting, term limits, proportional representation, and more. Wow!
